Verb root forms.

I understand the use of endings for verbs to change tense and meaning, but where do I find the root form, or “infinitive” form of the verbs.  When you say to use the -te form of a verb, how do I know what verb root to add that to?

Answer:

The root form is often referred to as the “dictionary form.” You can find the root form of verbs in a Japanese dictionary or Japanese-English dictionary.
